Toyota Tundra 5.7L TRD Supercharger
The 5.7L Toyota Tundra TRD Superchager will be available soon!
Maybe.
As I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, the TRD Supercharger has been given a part number in the latest Toyota Accessory Guide (part # PTR29-34070), but that’s no indication that the supercharger will be available soon.
However, I spoke to a friend of mine that works in a local Toyota dealer’s parts department, and he was estimating he’ll be able to order in a month or two. That would mesh with Toyota’s stated time line (see the picture below), but that’s not really any indication either.
My guess is that the Tundra 5.7L TRD Supercharger will delayed — it’s pretty common for these things to be held back by either the EPA, CARB, or the internal bureaucracy of Toyota. Take, for instance, the debut of the supercharger for the Scion tC. It was supposed to be out in the fall following the car’s debut (it also had a part number in the catalog), but EPA and CARB regulators held back the release more than 6 months. Same story with the Tacoma supercharger back in the day (and the one that’s supposed to be coming out).
But, it’s cool to imagine getting our hands on one…

One Bad 1999 Toyota 4Runner

When we found out about Ric Lopez’s 99′ 4Runner, we just had to feature it on the Tundra Headquarters blog. In our opinion, this is one of the nicer 4-wheel daily drivers we’ve seen. It’s a great combination of off-road capability and reliability, while still being “stock” enough to drive every day.
Ric has a 1999 Toyota 4Runner with the Highlander package that he purchased with his fiancée Edith back in November 2002. At that time, the 4Runner had only 60k miles on it and it was purchased for 4wheeling and camping in and around Kansas City. Originally, Ric installed a mild 2.5″ lift, rock sliders, and some 265/75/R16’s, which was more than adequate for the area.
Today, Ric and Edith live in Colorado and the 4Runner has a few more miles and modifications. For starters, Ric has a total of 189k miles on his 99′. In spite of this vehicle’s off-road adventures, Ric has never done any major maintenance or repairs to his vehicle (that’s Toyota quality). The 4Runner has been upgraded to keep up with Colorado trails — with a larger lift, larger tires, a new set of heavy-duty rock sliders, custom bumpers, and a winch. Even with all these modifications, the 4Runner still rides and drives great on city streets and is a good daily driver. This 99′ 4Runner has also been featured in some national off-road magazines.

ToyTec 3″ Tundra Lift Kit Review Update
Once ToyTec had a chance to reflect on our review, they made a couple of adjustments to their kit.
First, they’ve added some machined skid-plate spacers so that the skid plate does not touch the front differential after the diff has been dropped 1″ (the front diff is dropped to preserve the factory axle and ball joint angles).

TheCarConnection.com Spied 2009 Sequoia

The new Sequoia, due out in 2008 as a 2009 model, is expected to share a lot of components with the new Toyota Tundra, from engines and transmissions to body and interior panels. As we reported earlier this month, a hybrid Tundra is expected to debut a year or so later.
One can expect a hybrid Sequoia to be offered at the same time (if not sooner).

Toyota’s Scion Bringing Back The El Camino?

When I read this article on PickupTruck.com, I had to laugh a little. It seems that Toyota might be kicking around the idea of a compact pickup for it’s Scion line. It will have a 2.4L 4cyl, the same basic equipment as the rest of the Scion line, and the option of adding cool custom parts. It seems like a good idea, right up until you think about what you can do with a compact 4cyl 2wd car-based pickup…no hauling, no off-road, no towing anything heavier than 2k lbs.
All I can think to do is to put some astroturf in the back, a kick-ass coffee can for a muffler, give it some really small wheels, and tow my grandma’s motorcycle trailer (the little trailer you tow behind a motorcycle, not an actual trailer FOR motorcycles).
Wait! I could race it! 17 sec. 1/4 miles should be within my reach…
