Toyota's Formula 1 racing bill is said to be in excess of $1 billion total over the last 5 years or so (I've read estimates as high as $2 billion). Even if those estimates are off by a factor of 10, it's hard to stomach paying that much to race when you can't really draw a connection between racing and sales. "You win a race on Sunday, you sell cars on Monday." Maybe not so true anymore with today's economy.
