John - Thank you. We're still a little emotional about this...that Tundra diesel was going to kick ass.

Mitch - I couldn't agree more. Imagine a Sequoia diesel - an SUV that will tow as much as many large pickups while getting better than 20mpg and costing roughly the same as a competing gas Suburban with similar towing power. It seems like a no-brainer to offer a diesel...

A lot of speculation seems to be surrounding this deal (on the part of Toyota and the public)...but, I know one thing...I would never have considered buying a diesel vehicle until Toyota teased me with the option. For the time being, my Sequoia pulls the trailer fine, but I've always wanted a Tundra (not only for pulling the trailer, but for hunting, ski trips in the snow, back trails, etc...) and the pairing of the two (Tundra w/ diesel) would tip the scales. I think Toyota is underestimating the new truck/diesel owner market. People buy Toyota for value, performance, reliability, and resale...strangely, these are the same adjectives used for the diesel powertrain.

Ingle - Fair enough, but what's the advantage in being last to the party? According to the article on Truckblog.com, Toyota could have launched the diesel Tundra this year? They can afford to make a mistake and market the diesel unsuccessfully, but they can't afford to loose momentum. Competition in this truck segment is fierce.
