New Toyota Supra Price Concern

The next-gen Supra is on the drafting board waiting for a green light but that, contrary to a recent Motor Trend report, the hesitation has less to do with FT-86 sales and more to do with sales.

Toyota Supra Price Concern

If a new Toyota Supra is developed rumor has it it will look a lot like this Toyota FT-HS concept.

Toyota USA is worried about pricing this vehicle competitively. Since it will be a low-volume product built in Japan, it’s going to be expensive. There are worries that, while it will bring people to Toyota showrooms, they’ll leave when they see the price.

Rumor has it that Toyota R&D is planning on developing a 3.5-liter V-6 hybrid system generating over 400 hp that will be a rear-drive coupe to rival the Nissan GT-R. This new Supra successor is being made to look like the FT-HS concept’s body revealed at the 2007 Detroit show.

The Supra was built from 1979-2002 and became an iconic sports car. It has appeared in numerous video games, movies, music videos and TV shows over the years. Some of the most notable appearances include the Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport, Need for Speed, and Midnight Club series of video games and the 2001 film, The Fast and the Furious.

The styling of the Supra came from the Toyota Celica with many of the same parts used. While it was both longer and wider it was often confused with the Celica.

If all goes well, we could see a new Supra by 2015. And quite possibly this new sports car will be coming to a movie screen near you very soon!

fun to drive, but impractical. Just like the corvette. Been in a corvette once, and I was a little on the tipsy side, hard to get in and even harder to get out, but once inside, felt like you were part of the road riding in a go-kart, especially doing 25 mph corners 75 mph where 40 mph would be tops for most regular cars.
