The 2013 Toyota Tundra has won the Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Award. This continues a trend of Toyota Tundra pickups winning this award.

Kelley Blue Book’s Resale Value Award is significant because it looks at a long-term trend. This award looks at depreciation over a five year period. KBB picks vehicles that will maintain the greatest proportion of their original MSRP.  It won the award with a Resale Value proportion of 36 months: 55.9% and at 60 months: 45.0%.

The Toyota Tundra pickup is regarded as having one of the best resale values in the full-size truck industry for many years now. KBB.com is really just confirming what truck buyers already know.

The total depreciation of the vehicle can be over looked by consumers who get caught up in a car’s look or have short-term thinking. This number is quite important because just like maintenance, insurance and fuel costs, this number impacts consumers bottom line. Unfortunately, this number isn’t displayed on the window retail sticker, but it should be part of the equation of buying a new vehicle.

Overall, Toyota as a brand did very well. This flies in the face of skeptics who have pointed out Toyota’s recalls as a sign of a poor company. It also comes at a time of increased competition for this award.

“The competition for Best Resale Value within many segments has become very heated in the last few years, as major vehicle redesigns and new model introductions have challenged the traditional favorites,” said Eric Ibara, director of residual consulting for Kelley Blue Book. “However, for the second year in a row, Toyota and Lexus retain the top Best Resale Value ranking for both non-luxury and luxury brands, based on the average 60-month residual value across all models in each brands’ respective lineup. Combined, there is an impressive total of 12 Toyota and Lexus models bringing home 2013 Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards this year; half of the Top 10 models with Best Resale Value for 2013 hail from either Toyota or Lexus.”

Congrats Toyota Tundra on yet another award.

    Dependability, resale, looks….

What else does a truck buyer need?

    • I don’t know maybe Made in America. Whoops the Tundra has that too!

I love the Tundra as much as everybody else but nothing is perfect as I could use better FE and a better ride (hopefully the 4th gen will adress those 2). What I would like to know is with the Tripletech frame would we better off with air leaf suspension in the rear like Big Rigs (peterbilt 579) do with their Open C-Channel or would that just be overkill?
