2015 Toyota Tundra Bass Pro Shops Off-Road Edition – Stud or Dud

Coming to a Gulf States dealer this fall is a special 2015 Toyota Tundra Bass Pro Shops edition truck. It is filled with items outdoors enthusiasts need.

2015 Toyota Tundra Bass Pro Shops Off-Road Edition

The 2015 Toyota Tundra Bass Pro Shops Off-Road Edition will be available in October at Gulf States Toyota dealerships.

The Bass Pro Shops Tundra is billed as being equipped for all your off-road needs. It will come exclusively in silver and is a 4wd CrewMax SR5 with the 5.7L V-8 and towing package.

Gulf States Toyota says the package includes:

  • 20” Milled-Matte Black Wheels and All Terrain Upgrade
  • Custom Bass Pro Shops Carpeted Floor Mats
  • Bass Pro Shops Off-Road Bed Decals
  • 5” Oval Black Step Tubes
  • Spray-On Bedliner
  • Pocketed Fender Flares
  • Stainless Steel Exhaust Tip

For those wondering, the Gulf States region includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. This special edition will go on sale there in October starting at $43,975. If you purchase one, Bass Pro Shops is throwing in a fishing, hunting, camping or marine outdoor gear lifestyle package valued at $1,000.

“In the Gulf States pick-up trucks and being outdoors are a natural way of life, and that’s why we’ve developed the 2015 Toyota Tundra Bass Pro Shops Off-Road Edition,” said Marty Collins, president and general manager of Gulf States Toyota. “This vehicle not only has all the capability to take you where you want to go, but you’ll look good doing it.”

Our take: The additions are all fine and dandy, but where is the eLocker? Where is the custom paint, grille or heck even a cool topper like  the A.R.E Tundra has? Finally, what the heck does a stainless steel exhaust tip have to do with the “outdoors?”

The reality is many truck makers unveiled custom trucks at the Texas State Fair. In fact, both of GM’s are going to SEMA. Why the Gulf States Toyota dealerships dropped the ball is beyond us?

Our verdict – Dud.

What do you think?

It’s a great looking truck, but I agree, it’s a dud from an increased capability perspective. From the description in the article it’s not much different than the TRD appearance package.

The only selectable locker we’ll ever see in a Tundra is an ARB–wouldn’t that be something if Toyota hooked up with ARB? The ARB locker now has a 5 year unlimited miles warranty; that’s the best in the universe!

    dud

what a joke, a rolling bilboard for an extra 5K?

    pass

hey toyota, how about some storage under the rear sear of the crewmax.

    • mendonsy says:

Yeah, but you get a $1K Bass Pro credit card with it. That means the stupid decal only cost you $4K.

    • Larry says:

I will get one as soon as possible and fill it with as many dead bass as it will hold. That’s what it’s for, right. Drive it through the mud out to the river and go fishing all day. Fill it up with dead fish and beer cans.

WHO comes up with this stuff and gets people to drop their hard-earned coin on it? Like any of these trucks will drive down a dirt road to go fishing somewhere.

How about the Integrated Trailer Brake? Thought that was new for 2015?

    • Tim Esterdahl says:

      Mike,

The integrated trailer brake will be a 2015 addition. The word I got was it is a delayed roll out due to some production issues.

I assume they are working aggressively to make the electric over hydraulic work correctly? It took Ford 6 years to figure that out after they released their IBC.

      • Hemi Lol says:

        Tim,
I sent you a few in an email that are recent builds. I have done many over the last several years. one lowered, one a limited and 2 with nicknames 1st one was dubbed the storm trooper and the black one that followed ended up being called Darth Vader LOL……. enjoy!

  5. Randy says:

    It is a dud.

The uptake will be limited. Since it is a major profit mark up the discounts will be about 50% of the added price.

There will be a few that bite, but not many.

  6. Rick says:

    I agree, it’s a dud.

I don’t want or need any of these add ons and agree what others said regarding the E-Locker or storage under the back seat, etc.

Heres my pet peeve: How about fixing the notoriously leaky valve seals?

Toyota is taking an economic approach to their produce line. It takes them years to improve an interior! They seem detached from the minds of truck owners and what we want and need in a truck that we perceive as real value.

Being careful to keep the bottom line from getting away from you is a good thing. However, sometimes It’s not always about money and you have to assume risk at some point.

  7. GK says:

Looks like a rebranded “TSS” package that all the local dealers already have in bulk. Hell, try to find a tundra in the gulf states region that doesn’t have $2k+ in dealer installed options.

    Dud.
