Ford Pipes In Fake Engine Noise for 2015 Luxury, EcoBoost Powered F-150s

Ever since Ford released their EcoBoost engines, their has been criticism over how the trucks sound. Now with a smaller engine on the horizon, Ford has addressed this critic by piping in engine noise into the cabin. Yep, the EcoBoost will now have fake engine noise.

The new 2015 Ford F-150 EcoBoost will have fake engine noise piped in to mimic a V8 engine’s sound.

A report on RoadandTrack.com says that both the 2015 Mustang and 2015 F-150 will have V8 engine noise piped into the cabins of smaller EcoBoost powered trucks with a higher-trim level. This sound will mimic the larger engine and with the amount of sound deadening in the cabin, it will surely fool most owners.

Ford engineers call their plan “order content” and this terms refers to the engine differences.The difference between a V6 and V8 sound is due to the layout and firing order. Specifically, a V6 has more third-order noise while a V8 has more fourth-order sound.

We call it “fake engine noise.”

This somewhat clever way to address the sound problem will, interestingly, only be applied to higher-trim level F-150s. Why they won’t add it through their lineup is beyond us.

Also, interesting is the timing. With the new 2.7L EcoBoost V6 coming into their lineup, our guess is that engine really doesn’t sound like a V8.

What will be interesting to see is if this becomes a trend for all turbocharged engines.

    Goofy. I kind of get the no noise complaint on an electric motorcycle. But on a truck? Who cares if it’s actually quiet?

    Wow, from what i see they are piping that noise in because the engine doesnt get any better MPG LOL LOL….. BOTH PUTC and Truck Trend reported 16.5 and just shy of 18 mpg on the “new 2.7 ecoboost” thats laughable at best!

    PUTC reported 19 mpg pushing it hard. In their Tundra drive they got 14 mpg.

    in the video mark williams said they got that driving country roads never did he say pushing it hard…….truck trend said they got 16.3 or .5 as well as others… the tundra is all about how you drive it. Consumer reports says tundra 5.7 wiith 4.30s averages 15….. and they said the 3.5 ecoboost with only 3.55 gears averages 15…… im thinking thats not much of a difference….. that also suggests that the 2.7 wiill be more of the same ford lies……

      You lie! From PUTC Mark Williams’ 2.7 EB first drive: “we averaged between 18 and 19 mpg, and we were pushing the truck a bit to get a sense of how the truck felt at the outer limits.”

      And here is PUTC’s Tundra 1794 drive review: “I achieved 14.5 mpg in a week of combined highway and city driving, a less-than-stellar number and well below competitive vehicles in the segment.”

    btw ken maybe you should compare the mileage of the tundra with 4.6 which i bet in real world is just as good as that over complicated v6 and will last much much longer

    Still liking my 4.6 DC 4X4…Averages 17mpg combined and easily is 20 plus on the highway. Has TRD exhaust, SABM with TRD filter and Michelin All Season tires.
    I bet it sounds better inside and outside the cab than Ford’s newest product!
