Toyota unveiled their new NS4 Plug-In Hybrid at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

The NS4 features a next generation hybrid engine that includes lighter components, smaller parts and better fuel economy. Toyota also said it will have an increased range in its electricity mode. A lot of thought into the look of the NS4, with Toyota attempting to make hybrids less boring aesthetically, and more compelling to drivers.

Some of the biggest advancements shown in the concept include a plethora of safety features. The NS4 sports an advanced next generation Pre-Collision System that is designed to help avoid collisions with both other cars and pedestrians. The Adaptive Driving Beam Headlights are designed to allow more illumination of the road without blinding other drivers. The NS4 also features an upgraded Blind Spot Monitoring system and re-imagined rear view mirrors, which provide the driver greater vision.

The interior of the NS4 definitely has an interesting look to it.

Toyota also put a lot of work into the interior. The concept’s Human-Machine Interface is an interface designed with multiple touch screen reminiscent of today’s smart phones. The system is designed to present information quickly and simply to minimize driver distraction. The interface was also capable of learning the driver’s habits and preferences, with the goal again being to minimize the time drivers spent focused on the interface.

The technologies presented in the NS4 concept are expected to be featured in Toyota vehicles beginning in 2015.
